Before you show your home for sale you need to take a close look at both the inside and outside with an open mind.  There are a few steps you can do to help create a great space that appeals to the most potential buyers.  These things are simple but can take some time, so be sure you set some weekends aside for these simple home improvements that won’t break the bank.  Once your home is clean and clear, you’ll be ready for a showing.
Sparkly Clean
  • Be sure to see your reflection in all appliances and counter tops
  • Pay extra attention to the kitchen and washrooms
  • Wipe down your baseboards and heating vents
  • Dust and clean your window blinds, drapes and carpets
  • Clean your washer and dryer and tidy the laundry room
  • Clear out any unnecessary clutter in closets and storage areas
  • Remove any personal items such as family portraits or heirlooms 
  • Simplify your kitchen counter tops by clearing them, leaving only one or two items
  • Remove excess clothing, towels and linens if possible 
  • If possible, apply a fresh coat of paint to rooms or touch ups where needed
  • Fill any holes in drywall, such as picture hook holes and dings
  • Be sure all door knobs and hinges are tight 
  • Repair any leaking faucets, showers and toilets
  • Replace any burnt out light bulbs
  • Spray any squeaking doors or cabinets with oil
  • Place a new floor mat at your front door
  • Be sure the doorbell works
  • Only place a few shoes/boots and coats in the front closet if possible
  • Clean the front door and windows 
  • Wash the patio/front stairs if needed
  • Plant flowers in the garden or planters
  • Declutter and clean the garage (inside and out)
  • Weed the lawn, trim any hedges or bushes
  • Keep the lawn mowed
Once your have your house clean and clear you’ll want to make sure the final touches are complete, these are:
  • Open all curtains and drapes
  • Be sure the heating/air conditioner is set at a comfortable temperature
  • Turn on lights
  • Be sure your home smells clean and fresh
  • Have fresh fruit placed in the kitchen
